Richard "Dick" L. Hitt

1999 Aviator of the Year

Dick Hitt, a pilot, mechanic and owner of PA-20 is best known to thousands of South Carolina pilots as the “FAA’s Mr. Safety”.  Dick has been the Safety Program Manager for the Federal Aviation  Administration’s Columbia Flight Standards District Office (FSDO-13) since 1991.

By weight of his personal leadership and example, his selfless use of off-hours and personal time to train pilots, his regional and national professional deportment of immense individual charm and friendliness and knowledge, Dick Hitt is surely one of the best among us in South Carolina General Aviation. In 1999, he was named South Carolina Aviator of the Year.
